Project ESG Lake is a data platform that enables customers and partners to analyze data and build custom applications that help organizations to keep track of progress toward their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. It is part of the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, a cloud-based solution that helps organizations measure and manage their carbon footprint, water usage, waste generation, and other sustainability metrics.
Project ESG Lake works with other Microsoft solutions and services, such as Microsoft Sustainability Manager, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI, to provide a comprehensive and holistic view of an organization’s ESG performance. Project ESG Lake can help organizations prepare for new ESG reporting regulations, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the European Union, by providing reporting templates that are aligned to CSRD metrics.

Project ESG Lake offers an expansive ESG data model with more than 400 tables covering carbon, water, waste, social, governance, biodiversity, and general business areas. It allows organizations to integrate their ESG data from disparate sources into a data lake in their own subscription tenant, and then standardize it to one common schema for efficient data management, processing, and advanced reporting. Project ESG Lake also provides access to external datasets across various sustainability categories, such as biodiversity, climate risk, energy, and ESG.
